The indie navi mission statement

indie navi is dedicated to the coverage of Japanese mobile and indie development. “Indie” is a tough term to nail down. In our vernacular, it refers to the games development emerging from the lower boundaries to entry and reduced development costs that are the result of mobile and PC trends. We will tend to focus coverage on titles that take advantage of the “always online” mobile model, and titles that take advantage of digital distribution and lower development costs to offer retro experiences to new audiences.

Our interest is in titles that are in some way indicative of emerging development trends and distribution systems. We are less concerned with titles meant to be brief diversions soon forgotten. We have great interest in small development teams and development by single individuals, but will not shy away from providing coverage of titles by well-established, larger developers when we believe those titles fit our view of indie development. Even when stamped with the brand of their employer, such titles tend to be developed by small, dedicated teams within their organization.

We also may, on occasion, cover stories or development not directly related to Japanese mobile and indie development, where we believe this coverage will be of interest to readers who are interested in Japanese mobile and indie development.

Or: help indie navi to continue to exist! As you’ve probably noticed, we aren’t heavy on monetizing the site. That said, there are costs involved in providing and maintaining services. indie navi is maintained by a pair of translators with 15 years of combined translation service, so rather than putting up pay walls or passing around the collection basket, we offer these services at competitive rates as a means of funding the site.

We may also do pro bono work here and there if we like what you have in mind.
